New Year's 'ColourCafé about indigo'
An unique and interesting symposium about a colour in transformation from the Egyptians to 'green' jeans.
Foundation Kleurenvisie, the Dutch platform for colour, opens the new year with a colourcafe about indigo. A blue oriented program with lecturers from science, paint-industry and arthistory.
The exhibition BLUE JEANS in the Centraal Museum is the ultimate occasion to invite scientific researcher, Jenny Balfour-Paul (UK) to speak about her research of INDIGO. With a blue-tone chosen as colour of the year, about the colour TRENDs for 2013 and Ninke Bloemberg curator takes us on a journey to a special fashion exhibition with denim and indigo as main ingredients.
The programme is closed with a toast on the New Year! We invite you to be part of this special colour moment and look forward to meet you on Thursday January 31st in the Central Museum. This ColourCafé is a co-production of Stichting Kleurenvisie and the Central Museum in Utrecht.

During the ColourCafé Maarten van Bommel, senior scientist at the Civil Service for Cultural Heritage will present the poster presentation Woad is More than Blue, on the occasion of a research by Anna Hartl and other on Hallstatt textile.
The Book ‘ Indigo: Egyptian Mummies to Blue Jean’s by Jenny Balfour-Paul as well as the exhibition’s catalogue are available during the ColourCafé
Lecture by Ninke Bloemberg, composer of the exhibition Blue Jeans. Ninke Bloemberg is curator fashion at the Central Museum and, especially for this occassion, she will explain the creation of this exhibition. Main theme of the exhibition is Dutch jeans in the past and present.

Colour Trends 2013
Marieke van der Bruggen, Color Designer Flexa ColourLab, presents the colour trends for 2013 on the basis of five different themes. Annually Flexa, presents the Flexa Colour Futures. This colourbible shows the colour trends of the year with inspirational images and colour palettes.
Egyptian Mummies to Blue Jeans
We are very honoured that Jenny Balfour-Paul found the time in her very busy schedule to be present at our ColourCafé. As keynote speaker she will focus her lecture, in English, on the cultural and historical perspective with citations from her book Indigo: Egyptian Mummies to Blue Jeans. Jenny Balfour-Paul is, i.a. scientific researcher at the Exeter University, traveller and author. At the end of the programme there will be the possibility to see her book, to buy and have it signed.
Woad is more than blue
Maarten van Bommel presents a poster with the research results carried out on the Hallstatt textile which was found in a salt mine in Austria near the town of Hallstatt from the Bronze Age and especially from the Iron Age

Centraal Museum | Nicolaaskerkhof 10, 3512 XC Utrecht | www.centraalmuseum.nl The museum is easy to reach by public transport (bus 2 Museumkwartier). There is limited paid parking space near the entrance of the museum, but you can also park in the Springweggarage. The route can be found here.
For this grant ColourCafé, we ask a contribution of 27,50 euros, this includes coffee/tea, a drink and VAT. Please transfer the amount beforehand. More info can be found on the entry form.
