Throughout the ages, colour has aroused emotions and inspired great feats of creativity. It has been the main motivation for people as divers as Aristotle, Leonardo da Vinci, Isaac Newton, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Wilhelm Ostwald, Alfred Munsell, Vincent van Gogh, Piet Mondriaan, Bruno Taut, Wassily Kandinsky, and Johannes Itten, who each in their own right have changed the way we now perceive colour.
Stichting Kleurenvisie, the Dutch Colour Foundation, encourages research of colour in our own time, one of the focal points being to bring together scientists and practitioners to swap knowledge and experiences and so bring colour research to a higher level. Furthermore, Kleurenvisie gathers and spreads information on colour, exploits spin-offs, facilitates colour groups, organises meetings and field trips, and publishes magazines and studies to make people more aware of the impact and possibilities of colour in our everyday lives.
Stichting Kleurenvisie focuses particularly on professionals working with colour in divers fields of interest. At this moment, over 350 interior decorators, architects, industrial designers, students, paint factories, scientists, colleges, think tanks, artists, and fashion-, light-, and graphic designers are involved with Kleurenvisie to spread knowledge on the use of colour.
Within this network of professionals, members are free to develop their understanding of colour solitarily, cooperatively with internal and external parties, locally and internationally. We encourage members to form study groups, to advise and educate, and organise colour events to endorse the use of colour.
Meets and magazine
Twice a year, Stichting Kleurenvisie organises a Kleurendag, an daylong event featuring speakers, hands-on demonstrations, and workshops on a particular colour related theme. This is also a great opportunity for people to meet who wouldn’t otherwise happen upon each other. An impression of previous Colour Days is found here.
The foundation also publishes a Kleurenvisie magazine to reach out to interested parties and help them get in touch with each other. The magazine and the website offer (international) news concerning colour, announces colour days and meetings in The Netherlands and abroad, reviews and press cuttings and news offered by Kleurenvisie members.
Stichting Kleurenvisie has been a member of the International Colour Association from its foundation and regularly publishes in the ICA newsletter. This also makes us a sister organisation to the following international colour organisations:
